A Great Year of Science Ahead at Capital Christian Homeschool!
Over the past few months leaders have been working with our homeschool group community to find the science curriculum that best fits our needs.
This has been such a hard decision. We had a lot to keep in mind: the desires of our members and facilitators, price, quality, and the functionality of developing a full-bodied, God-honoring science program to fit our schedule.
With all of these considerations in mind, we are planning to offer the following options for the coming year:

K-2 Science: Zoology 1
For K-2nd, we hope to use Apologia’s Zoology 1: Flying Creatures textbook as a spine for the class. This means that the textbook will be the resource the facilitator uses for planning classes.
We hope to offer two ways for families to study the subjects covered in the textbook. We would like to provide a supplemental list of materials for parents interested in utilizing more of a Charlotte Mason approach for science. However, reading the textbook will also an be an option for families.

3-4 Science: Zoology 1
This age group will also be doing Zoology 1. While we would recommend reading the Apologia Zoology 1 textbook, parents are also welcome to use the same supplemental resources listed for the K-2nd students in addition to (or instead) of the text if they would like.

5-6 Science: Human Anatomy
Grades 5-6 will be doing Apologia’s Human Anatomy. This is an amazing class. It offers many hands-on learning opportunities along with a deep dive into human anatomy.

7-9 Science: Master Books OR Apologia
For 7th-9th grades, our plan is to have two options each year (if the Lord provides facilitators): (1) the traditional Apologia course and (2) a Master Books Apologetics approach to science.
The Master Books approach will rotate topics like God’s great design in creation and how man’s best creative efforts can only copy Him, the truth behind the fossil record and geology, and a Godly perspective and study of outer space.
This year we will be doing Master Books‘ Applied Engineering: God’s Design in Nature. There is a Master Books Academy (video) course available for this in addition to the reading material.
We hope to also offer Apologia’s Physical Science for 7th-9th grades if we have a facilitator for that course.

9-12 Science: Health, Nutrition, & PE
While we wait for our high school students to complete the Algebra 2 math requirement necessary for Chemistry, this coming year is a great time to meet the graduation requirement of a Health and PE class. This class provides a survey of human anatomy, psychology, chemistry and biology, which is a great foundation for high school sciences.
Flexibility in Choosing a Science
Please be aware that there is also some flexibility in which class you place your student – going up or down a grade level usually isn’t an issue as long as class sizes allow.
Also, parents are welcome to adapt curriculum at home to meet their student’s needs. While we ask that students do any required homework and are prepared for class discussions, there are often multiple ways to meet that homework requirement. Please talk to your student’s class facilitator about options to individualize your student’s learning plan for homework if needed.
