Student Safety Policy

The safety of our students is of utmost importance to the Capital Christian Homeschool Community.

For this reason, we kindly request that all incoming parents sign this policy and participate in the safety measures outlined below.

Policy on Individuals Convicted of Crimes

Adults with a history of offenses against children, sexual offenses, violent crimes, drug-related crimes, or crimes of neglect or abuse shall not be permitted to attend any Capital Christian Homeschool Community event. All participating adults are subject to background checks.

Locked Doors

The doors to the church building are closed and locked after the start of the first class and remain locked until the last period.

A doorbell is available for families needing admittance after the door is locked, but the door will not be opened for anyone who is not a group member.

Parental Oversight

While at Capital Christian, students are NOT allowed to be in a room or the hallways without a parent unless it is with a facilitator and assistant during class time.

The gym is available as a gathering space during lunch.

The conference room is available for teens to use as a study hall and for quiet classwork with a designated adult supervisor.

Three’s a Company

Adults should not be alone in a room with a child who is not their own. Whenever possible, two adults will be present with children as a layer of protection and accountability. At a minimum, two students can be with an unrelated adult or two adults with one student.

If you are in a room with one student who is not yours, please step into the hallway with the student until someone can join you.

NURSERY AND PRESCHOOL SAFETY

**Nursery and Preschool Sign in and Check Out**

Parents should drop off and sign out their children in their respective classrooms. Facilitators or a designated Lead Assistant will ensure children remain in their classrooms for pick up. Children cannot be released until a parent has signed them out.

For preschool gym, students will meet in the classroom for sign in at 2:00 and return there for sign out at 3:05.

**Secure Classroom Doors**

Children should stay in the room monitored by adults at all times. The lower half of the door should stay closed and secure unless a child is exiting with a parent.

**Diaper Changes**

If an infant or toddler needs a diaper change, the female volunteer must stay in sight of other adults in the room while changing a diaper.

**PreK Bathroom in Classroom**

If a classroom bathroom is available, the child should use it alone with the door slightly ajar but not open. An adult should then remain outside the door within earshot to listen (without looking) until they are finished.

For the protection of the child and the teachers, two women must always be present when accompanying or helping a child in the bathroom. If you need to assist a child in a stall or classroom bathroom, leave the door open.

GRADES K-4 SAFETY

**Attendance and Class Transfers**

Attendance will be taken in all classes at the start of the class.

Class assistants will help transfer students’ grades in K-4 between classes. K-4 students should not be sent into the hallways to find their way on their own, but they should have an assistant there until their facilitator/parent has arrived.

For lunch and after the last class, students will be escorted to the gym, where parents will take over supervision.

**K-4 Bathroom in Children’s Wing**

If a student needs to use the bathroom during class, a female assistant will escort the student and first check the bathroom to confirm it’s empty, prop the door, and wait for the student to use the restroom while they wait outside the bathroom. They should then escort the student back to class.

No one should ever be alone with a child in a bathroom or bathroom stall with the door closed.

GRADES 5-8 SAFETY

**Attendance and Class Transfers**

While students in grades 5-8 are allowed to make class transfers on their own, they should not be in the hall or a classroom by themselves or with just one adult. Attendance will be taken in all classes at the start of the class.

**5-8 Bathroom in Gym Wing**

If a student needs to use the bathroom during class, a female assistant needs to escort the student and first check the bathroom to confirm it’s empty and wait for the student to use the restroom outside the bathroom. They should then escort the student back to class.

No one should ever be alone with a student in a bathroom with the door closed.

GRADES 9-12 SAFETY

**Attendance and Class Transfers**

While students in grades 9-12 are allowed to make class transfers on their own, they should not be in the hall or a classroom by themselves or with just one adult. Additionally, they should not be in a room alone with a classmate. Attendance will be taken in all classes at the start of the class.

**9-12 Bathroom in Gym Wing**

If a student needs to use the bathroom during class, a female assistant needs to escort the student and first check the bathroom to confirm it’s empty and wait for the student to use the restroom outside the bathroom. They should then escort the student back to class.

No one should ever be alone with a student in a bathroom with the door closed.
