Parent Roles

3 Ways to Participate

For a homeschool community to be successful and enjoyable, ALL MEMBERS must actively contribute.

We recognize that parents bring various abilities, talents, and limitations to our group. For this reason, we offer three options for parent participation.

Option 1: Stay and Assist

Time Investment: less than an hour spent outside of class time.

For parents who choose to assist, they attend our community days with their students and serve in a support role to the class facilitators.

Assisting parents are required to assist during each class period in which their children are enrolled.

Participation Requirements:

  • Oversee your home education by helping students complete assigned work outside of class
  • Actively engage with students and assist the facilitator as asked during classes, refraining from screen use during classes
  • Assist with set up and clean up at the church if you have students in grades 5+
  • Arrive on time and assist in assigned classes
  • Report any absences
  • Help set up and clean up class activities
  • Transfer students between classes and help with check-in/check-out
  • Optional: Organize a community field trip or event
  • Note: In the case of a facilitator’s absence, assistants may be called upon to facilitate the classes they assist with via a prepared lesson plan. Assistants are not responsible for creating lesson plans.

Cost:

  • 1 Period = $140
  • 2 Periods = $220
  • 3 Periods = $300
  • 4 Periods = $380

Option 2: Stay and Facilitate

Time Investment: 3-6 hours a week outside of class

For parents who choose to facilitate, they attend our community days with their students and facilitate a class.

Perks for Facilitating Parents:

  1. Facilitators pay $40 per period, with the second period their family attends free.
  2. They receive one period off during the community day for planning, and will serve as either an assistant or a “float” assistant during any other periods their family attends. Those who choose to assist in a second class will likely have a second period off.
  3. A high school student may attend a class period without a facilitating parent, provided they have permission from the leadership.
  4. Receive a discounted rate.

Participation Requirements

  • Oversee your home education by helping students complete assigned work outside of class
  • Assist with setup and cleanup at the church if you have students in grades 5+
  • Choose a curriculum and write a course description
  • Develop a course outline
  • Plan for class activities and collect supplies
  • Provide a lesson plan for any absences
  • Communicate the course plan to parents
  • Facilitate class time
  • Optional: Organize a community field trip or event
  • High School Only: Create a Google Classroom for student assignments and resources, if any electronic resources will be used.

Cost:

  • 1 Period = $100
  • 2 Periods = $100
  • 3 Periods = $140
  • 4 Periods = $180

Option 3: Pay and Drop

Note: Pay and drop is only available to high school students.

Time Investment: 0 hours a week

For pay and drop, parents sign the students in and out, but are not required to stay. There is also no facilitating or assisting responsibility.

Participation Requirement:

  • Oversee your home education by helping students complete assigned work outside of class
  • Optional: Organize a community field trip or event

While pay and drop-off parents may not be able to contribute their physical presence and help, the financial contribution benefits the group as a whole, offsetting costs for other families.

Cost:

  • 1 Period = $260
  • 2 Periods = $460
  • 3 Periods = $660
  • 4 Periods = $860
