Class Rotations for Grades 1-8

At CCH, it is our hope that by following the plan outlined below, students can enroll at Capital Christian in kindergarten and continue through to graduation, covering essential classes and concepts using the CCH curriculum for their home education.

To learn more about the process used to select our curriculum and classes, please visit our About page.

While this plan focuses on grades 1-8, you can view the class rotations for high school HERE.

SOCIAL STUDIES:

  • K-8 Mystery of History Volumes 1-4
  • K-8 Let’s Go Geography Year 2

Our plan is to use The Mystery of History for history classes moving forward. This is a comprehensive four-year history curriculum that comfortably spans grade levels and offers hands-on activities that are easily adaptable to the classroom environment. Paired with a list of vibrant living books for families to choose from, this curriculum will guide us through pivotal events in world history, including American history.

In the fifth year, students will study World Geography and Cultures with Let’s Go Geography. The Year 2 Teacher’s Guide to this curriculum has two years of lesson plans available for facilitators and was already purchased by our community (reducing cost in future years).

In the fall of 2027, we will begin working our way back through time with Mystery of History (starting with volume 4) for grades K-8. Starting with Modern Times and time-traveling backwards allows us to cover key concepts without repeating time periods for students who have been with this community for several years.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

  • PreK-K Letter of the Week
  • 1-2 Intro to Genres
  • 3-12 Proficient Communicators Language Arts

For grades PreK-K, children at CCH begin with an early literacy class using something like Letter of the Week to guide class activities. Parents are encouraged to use a reading program at home to help students build literacy skills.

For grades 1-2, CCH students can take Intro to Genres. This is a lighter version of ProCom without homework, which allows families to continue focusing on reading development at home.

Students in grades 3-12 are able to take Proficient Communicators Language Arts classes. These classes offer a unique combination of academic, creative, and professional writing projects. They also introduce students to oral presentations. Parents are encouraged to pair these classes with simple grammar and spelling programs at home.

SCIENCE:

  • PreK-K Science Unit Studies
  • 1-6 Berean Builders’  Science in the… Series
  • 7-8 Apologia’s General Science/Berean Builders “Science in the Atomic Age”

Grades 1-6 will continue using Berean Builders’ “Science in the…” series. Beginning in the fall of 2027, students will jump into “Science in the Industrial Age,” and we will work our way backwards through the series. This allows our science and social studies to pair beautifully.

Note: Since these books are experiment-heavy (which makes science more hands-on and engaging), we would love it if classes on community days cover experiments for the coming week. This would

Grades 7-8 rotate between Apologia’s General Science and another curriculum, possibly Berean Builders “Science in the Atomic Age.”

GYM

We recognize that movement is essential for our younger learners. For this reason, we approach science classes for students in grades 1-4 differently by dividing class time between science and gym.

ELECTIVES AND LANGUAGES

Whether these are offered and what is offered will vary from year to year, depending on facilitator interest and our numbers.

American Sign Language for grades 1-8 will be offered during our first period for the 2027-2028 school year.

Note: To improve overall sustainability for our community, electives and a fourth period will not be offered during the 2027-2028 school year.
